A Regulatory Framework to Build Confidence
Early on, SIX Swiss Exchange has made contributed significantly to fuel interest and help to grow investments in cryptocurrency products by establishing a clear framework for the listing and trading them – a pioneering role for which the Swiss stock exchange was awarded Best European Exchange for Listing cryptocurrency ETPs in 2022. The updated Swiss crypto regulation, which came into force in April 2024, has further expanded the universe of eligible crypto underlyings – laying the foundation for the expansion of the product range.
A Success Story Originating in 2016
The growth of crypto products on SIX Swiss Exchange traces back to 2016, when Bank Vontobel listed a structured product in the form of a certificate that tracked bitcoin. The first crypto basket ETP was listed on the Swiss stock exchange in November 2018 by Amun (now 21shares) – a world premiere at the time. Since then, numerous other innovative products have been launched on the Swiss stock exchange.
